Omastar has a niche in RU as a strong Shell Smash sweeper on both rain and screens teams. However, it struggles to find setup opportunities due to its typing and poor Special Defense, and even with boosts, it still slightly struggles to break through some bulky Pokemon such as Assault Vest Reuniclus, Gastrodon, and Snorlax. Meteor Beam OHKOes bulky Water-types such as Milotic, Suicune, and Volcanion after Shell Smash boosts, which otherwise check Omastar well. Surf is the preferred STAB move when Omastar is used on rain teams. Hydro Pump, on the other hand, is the better choice on screens teams due to its higher Base Power, allowing Omastar to OHKO bulky Metagross and offensive Necrozma as well as 2HKO Registeel and Snorlax. Ice Beam OHKOes many Dragon- and Grass-types such as Noivern, Zarude, and Roserade, as well as Dragalge and Toxicroak after some chip damage. Swift Swim is the ability of choice if Omastar is used on rain teams, while Weak Armor has more use on screens teams.
Politoed is a necessary teammate if Omastar is used on rain teams. Seismitoad and Kingdra are strong rain sweepers, which help Omastar to overwhelm bulky Pokemon such as Milotic, Registeel, and Assault Vest Reuniclus. In addition, Seismitoad also provides Stealth Rock support and an immunity to Electric-type moves. Tornadus, Raikou, Metagross, and Toxicroak are other examples that work well on rain teams and help Omastar to break through opposing teams. If Omastar is used on screens teams, dual screens support is crucial; Klefki is a reliable dual screens setter and supports Omastar further with Spikes. Vanilluxe has Aurora Veil and can either weaken or defeat bulky Water-types such as Seismitoad, Milotic, and Suicune with Freeze-Dry and hail damage. In addition, Arctozolt can be used alongside Vanilluxe as a strong wallbreaker, which breaks through bulky teams that Omastar struggles with. Other strong setup sweepers such as Linoone, Mimikyu, Galarian Slowbro, and Polteageist help Omastar overwhelm opposing teams.
