Welcome to the third edition of the Official Smogon Doubles Tournament! This year's format will be a Bo3 SV Doubles OU swiss tournament with a top cut, in which the winner walks away with the OSDT trophy
!

Rules & Tournament Format

General Tournament Rules

  • This is a standard SV DOU tournament.
  • OSDT III will be a swiss tournament with a to be determined top cut size depending on signups.
    • Players will be automatically dropped when they hit three losses as they are no longer in contention for top cut.
    • Players will be assigned a random opponent out of the pool of players with the same record as you each round.
  • Rounds will be Best of Three. You may switch teams in between battles of the same set.
  • Matches are to be played on Pokemon Showdown!. If you can't agree on which server to play on, the Smogtours server is the default option.
  • Replays are required and must be posted every round.
  • There are no extensions, so please get your games done on time.
  • Your hosts are TPP, Theia, ryo yamada2001, Lady Salamence
Activity Decisions / Coin Flips: In the event that there is an uncompleted match at the deadline, it will be coin flipped unless one or both of the players involved in the match specifically request an activity win and explain sufficiently why they deserve to win over their opponent. Attempting to schedule a battle is required in order to receive the win by activity. To make it clear that you are requesting an activity win when you post, you must open your post with "Activity Win Request" in bold.

For example, if you believe your opponent is making an unfair request and that they don't deserve the activity win over you, you can either make your own request or quote their post and explain why they don't deserve it. You should try to make your activity win request posts at least 24 hours before the deadline to give your opponent a reasonable opportunity to contest it with their own activity win request.

In case of disconnections, if you played in the SmogTours server, call a Tournament Director as soon as possible and we'll see about the possibility of having a rematch.
Prize

Courtesy of the Pokemon Showdown! Upper Staff, in addition to the trophy, the winner of OSDT III will win an additional prize. The winner will have a choice of receiving a Custom Avatar or reclaiming an inactive username on Pokemon Showdown!, with the runner-up receiving the option not chosen by the winner.

Yoda vs Feyy

think yoda has been on too much of a hot streak to lose by this point, will be a closer series than I think people expect but the smart money is leaning toward yoda. that and feyy should worry about infractions in the next week

xqiht vs nido

xqiht brought some really interesting teams vs JRL and played the series very well. Nido however, is one of the more creative builders within the tier and although he got a little lucky in his second game vs akaru, I believe he's the much stronger and more consistent player of the two. I think this series probably goes all 3 games and one I look forward to seeing.

z0mg vs qsns

This is the series of the round in my opinion. qsns has been a staple of the tier for as long as anyone can remember while z0mg is arguably one of the best players within the tier in no matter what meta he's playing. qsns is more apt to lean on a bulkier style of team while z0mg tends to prefer a little more aggressive of a play style making for an interesting style clash. I can see this series going to all 3 games and although I have z0mgs named bolded it will likely just be whatever player is having a better day. This series probably produces the winner of the entire tournament in my opinion.

meminger vs zee

Another interesting series though I think zee has the edge in both the team building aspect as well as the playing ability. Meminger is no slouch however and if zee isn't fully prepared or reuses teams I can see meminger pulling an upset out of their hat in this series.

With top 8 on its way, it's time to start making longer predictions so here goes (hopefully this isn't egregiously bad)
1. Yoda2798 vs 8. Feyy
So right of the bat we have a pretty even high stakes battle of Cold Crew infighting. Yoda has looked borderline unstoppable this season, but he hasn't played for OSDT in literally a month, having byes every round and looking somewhat shaky playing sv in derby (I assume this is primarily due to him focusing on OSDT). Most will probably go for Yoda here regardless, but Feyy has been extremely solid this year and in my opinion is probably more in form due to having to play Bagel last week, so I'll give them the edge here- it could definitely go either way.
Yoda2798 (40) vs Feyy (60)
2. Xqiht vs 7. Nido-Rus
Xqiht is one of the biggest rising stars in the DOU community right now and is now faced with another difficult round after holding off one of DOU's all time greats last round. This time they'll be squaring off against Nido-Rus, another one of the goats who's looking to add to his trophy collection this year. Nido has (predictably) been one of the greatest players and builders this season and has more experience competing at this stage so I'm going to have to give him the edge here, but with that being said Xqiht has been extremely impressive in individuals since the start of SV and we could definitely see an upset here.
Xqiht (30) vs Nido-Rus (70)
3. z0mog vs. 6. qsns
A really stacked and even matchup being two great players that I'm really looking forward to watching. Qsns is definitely more of a builder but z0m may not be easy to scout given that you can't quite be sure where the teams will be sourced from. This is tough and I'm not really sure which way to go, but I'll go with a slight edge to z0m since I think his in-game might be a little bit scarier, but again I think this might be the most even match of the entire bunch so I'm very prepared to be wrong here.
z0mog (55) vs qsns (45)
4. Meminger21 vs 12. zee
Meminger, having just beat xrn, will be looking to overcome another three letter named opponent this round. Meminger has looked good all tournament and could definitely move on here, but I think with zee really feeling this metagame and how solid their teams have been in the post-home metagame I have to give zee the edge here. I may be vastly underselling Meminger here, his tournament run has been pretty dominant so far and he can definitely win this.
Meminger21 (35) vs zee (65)
