Mirror Mirror, who is staring back at me?
[SET]
Defensive Pivot (Corviknight) @ Rocky Helmet / Leftovers / Heavy-Duty Boots / Covert Cloak
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 248 HP / 184 Def / 76 SpD or 248 HP / 180 Def / 80 Spe
Tera Type: Dragon
Impish Nature
- Roost
- Brave Bird / Body Press
- Defog / Iron Defense
- U-turn / Iron Defense
[SET COMMENTS]
Corviknight uses its favorful defensive typing, pivoting capabilities, and good matchups against entry hazard setters like Gliscor and Landorus-T to become a good defensive glue for teams that lack strong checks to powerful wallbreakers like Tapu Lele, Kartana, and Weavile while also being able to consistently remove hazards and gain momentum for its team. Brave Bird allows Corviknight to not be completely useless against Pokemon like Volcarona, Zamazenta, and Ogerpon-W. Body Press hits Pokemon like Mega Tyranitar and Ferrothorn for meaningful damage, preventing them from consistently getting hazards up against Corviknight. U-turn is a vital tool, allowing Corviknight to preserve momentum against Pokemon that counter it, such as Raging Bolt and Heatran. Iron Defense can be used over Defog if a team already has hazard removal, and it allows Corviknight to boost alongside Pokemon that could otherwise set up on it like Mega Mawile and Mega Scizor while also boosting the damage output of Body Press to monstrous levels. Iron Defense can also be used over U-turn on stall teams that don’t mind the momentum sink and appreciate Corviknight compressing multiple roles, such as being a check to Mega Gyarados, Mega Mawile, and Tapu Lele; as a Defogger; and as a good wincon. Rocky Helmet is used to punish contact moves from Weavile, Urshifu-R, Landorus-T, and Rillaboom, but Leftovers or Covert Cloak can be used for passive healing or ignoring secondary effects from moves like Tapu Lele’s Psychic and Toxapex’s Scald. Heavy-Duty Boots allows Corviknight to pivot more safely without fearing chip damage from Stealth Rock and more reliably switch in and remove hazards with Defog. Tera Dragon allows Corviknight to gain resistances to Fire- and Electric-type attacks from Mega Charizard Y and Zapdos while also allowing it to check Ogerpon-W and rain sweepers like Barraskewda and Mega Swampert. The first EV spread allows Corviknight to survive a Swords Dance-boosted Continental Crush from Landorus-T, with the remaining EVs dumped into Special Defense to let Corviknight take on Tapu Lele and Mega Latios a bit better. The second EV spread should be used on Iron Defense variants to outspeed uninvested Heatran. Corviknight mainly fits on balance teams, where Pokemon like Toxapex and Mega Tyranitar appreciate its ability to switch into devastating wallbreakers like the aforementioned Tapu Lele, Garchomp, and Rillaboom. Wallbreakers like Iron Valiant and Weavile appreciate Corviknight pivoting them in safely against Pokemon like Tapu Lele and Garchomp because of their frailty. A good defensive backbone that can check Pokemon that threaten Corviknight offensively like Volcarona, Heatran, and Raging Bolt is much appreciated, usually consisting of teammates like Gliscor and Toxapex. Corviknight can also fit on stall teams, which contain teammates like Clodsire and Dondozo that help check Tapu Koko and Gouging Fire are found.
