Pros:
  • Granbull has an amazing 120 Attack stat, being able to dish out heavy damage with or without a boosting item.
  • Fairy is a nice type to be in a tier plagued with Dark and Dragon types such as Roaring Moon, Weavile, and Ting-Lu.
  • Intimidate is a fantastic ability that weakens physical attackers and eases setup on Bulk Up sets.
  • Granbull has a surprisingly wide movepool. Coverage options such as Close Combat and Earthquake complement Granbull's Fairy STAB well and harm Fire and Steel types such as Kingambit and Heatran, while more unorthodox options like Ice Punch and Wild Charge can catch others off-guard.
Cons:
  • Despite having a high Attack stat, Granbull is primarily let down by the rest of its stats. 90/75/60 bulk is subpar at best, especially considering how slow it is. With 45 Speed, it ties Ting-Lu and underspeeds Kingambit and Enamorus-Therian.
  • Granbull had Heal Bell prior to its Gen 9 introduction, allowing it to function as a cleric. However, since it no longer has Heal Bell, it is merely relegated to a wallbreaking role.
  • Despite its positives, Granbull faces strong competition from other Pokemon that have more to offer. As a Fairy-type wallbreaker, Pokemon such as Azumarill, Enamorus, and Iron Valiant are better options by virtue of their secondary STABs, better offensive stats, and utility options.
Terastalization Potential:
Fire
Resists Steel, is neutral to Poison, and boosts Fire Punch / Temper Flare. Also prevents the user from being burned.
Fairy
Boosts Fairy STAB while keeping its good typing.
Ground
Resists Poison, is neutral to Steel, and boosts Earthquake.
Fighting
Keeps Bug and Dark resists and boosts Close Combat but adds a Fairy weakness.
Stellar
Boosts both STAB and coverage once while keeping Fairy's defensive properties.

Bulk Up set to function as a setup wallbreaker. It's uncertain as to when and how Granbull will be able to set up with so many fast and bulky threats in OU, but if one can pull it off, it will at least be decently bulky physically, albeit still slow and frail on the special end. The choice between Tera Fire and Tera Fairy is mainly up to preference; Fire blocks burn, boosts Fire coverage, and allows Granbull to set up on most Steel types easier; meanwhile, Fairy boosts Granbull's already powerful and semi-reliable STAB move in Play Rough while still keeping the same good typing it had before.

Granbull @ Choice Band
Ability: Intimidate
Tera Type: Fairy
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Play Rough
- Close Combat
- Fire Punch
- Earthquake

Band set for more immediate damage. 4 Speed EVs speedcreeps Ting-Lu and allows Granbull to nail it with a Choice Band-boosted Play Rough, provided it doesn't Terastallize. Tera Fairy, as stated in the Bulk Up set, boosts Granbull's Fairy STAB further and allows it to keep its already good typing; the former effect is especially valued when locked into Play Rough from Choice Band. One can also play around with Granbull's coverage options a bit more on this set than with Bulk Up, adding moves such as Psychic Fangs or Ice Punch to support the team even if the standard options are already listed.

Conclusion:
Unfortunately, Granbull is a dog with all bark but no bite. Its positive attributes, notably its pure-Fairy typing, Intimidate, and wide coverage options are hampered by its underwhelming stats and top-tier competition. Because of this, Granbull won't be able to make a name for itself in OU, although it may thrive in a tier like PU, where Fairy-types are few and far between.

I’ve been running Granbull on the NU, PU, and even RU for a bit trying to experiment, and it has surprised me with how supportive it can be to a team. Running a SpDef bulky set with Bulk Up, Play Rough, Earthquake, and Thunder Wave has actually brought me respectable results. With Leftovers and Wish support, it can force a lot of switches after Intimidate drops and either cripple with Thunder Wave or set up with Bulk Up. Tera Ground has worked for me so far, but Fire might end up being better to protect from being ruined by burn.
