RU Golisopod [QC 2/2][GP 2/2]

Golisopod-Modell.gif

[OVERVIEW]
First Impression Golisopod is a reliable revenge killer for many common threats such as Necrozma, Zarude, and Xurkitree. Additionally, its combination of the crippling Knock Off and Spikes makes it a great offensive supporter able to punish nearly every switch-in and play around of some of its typical checks. Golisopod's typing and physical bulk allow it to check some strong threats such as Metagross, Barraskewda, and Flygon as well. However, after First Impression is used, Golisopod is easy to revenge kill due to its low Speed stat and mediocre special bulk. Golisopod also struggles against many common bulky Pokemon such as Milotic, Gastrodon, and Vileplume, particularly the Water-types. Although its Emergency Exit might be helpful in some situations, getting forced to switch out is disadvantageous in most cases.

[SET]
name: Revenge Killer
move 1: First Impression
move 2: Spikes
move 3: Liquidation / Aqua Jet
move 4: Knock Off
item: Heavy-Duty Boots
ability: Emergency Exit
nature: Adamant
evs: 172 HP / 252 Atk / 84 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
Aqua Jet makes Golisopod more difficult to revenge kill and able to revenge kill Pokemon such as Chandelure, Salazzle, and Aerodactyl. However, without a strong and reliable STAB move in Liquidation, Golisopod becomes a bit too weak against bulky Pokemon such as Cobalion, Klefki, and Sylveon. Knock Off punishes Golisopod's typical switch-ins such as Noivern, Togekiss, and Milotic. In addition, removing Heavy-Duty Boots from grounded switch-ins such Gastrodon, Dragalge, and Volcanion enables Golisopod to wear them down with Spikes. Heavy-Duty Boots gives Golisopod more switch-in opportunities by negating its severe entry hazard weakness. The listed Speed EVs allow Golisopod to outspeed Pokemon with uninvested base 50 Speed such as Diancie, Registeel, and Vileplume. The remaining EVs are dumped into HP, allowing Golisopod to better switch into Metagross's and Mienshao's attacks.

Golisopod works well on balance and bulky offensive teams that need a reliable revenge killer for common threats such as Xurkitree, Necrozma, and Zarude and appreciate a reliable Spikes setter. Powerful wallbreakers such as Obstagoon, Toxtricity, and Gardevoir appreciate Golisopod's Spikes support. In return, they handle troublesome bulky Pokemon such as Vileplume, Dragalge, and Gastrodon. Strong late-game cleaners like Mimikyu, Sharpedo, and Xurkitree are also good examples of Pokemon that appreciate Spikes support. Grass- and Electric-types such as Vileplume, Zarude, and Xurkitree check bulky Water-types that Golisopod struggles with such as Milotic, Seismitoad, and Gastrodon. Bulky Rock- and Steel-types such as Dianice, Rhyperior, and Metagross, on the other hand, check strong Flying-types such as Togekiss, Noivern, and Crobat. These Pokemon also form a great hazard stacking core with Golisopod, as they are reliable Stealth Rock setters. Beyond that, they appreciate Golisopod's ability to remove Heavy-Duty Boots with Knock Off. Specially defensive Pokemon such as Porygon2, Assault Vest Reuniclus, and Snorlax are great to reliably check the tier's strong Electric-types.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Leech Life gives Golisopod the option to heal itself and, more importantly, hit Grass-, Psychic-, and Dark-types such as Zarude, Reuniclus, and Umbreon super effectively after First Impression is used. However, it has little use besides that, making it overall worse than Knock Off and Spikes. Close Combat allows Golisopod to 2HKO Registeel and Cobalion as well as hit Seismitoad for decent damage.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Bulky Water-types**: Bulky Water-types such as Seismitoad, Milotic, and Gastrodon take very little from Golisopod's moves and threaten it with a Scald burn or Toxic poison. However, they do not want to lose their items to Golisopod's Knock Off.

**Various Bulky Pokemon**: Various bulky Pokemon such as Vileplume, Dragalge, and Bewear can easily switch into Golisopod's STAB moves and quickly KO it or activate Emergency Exit. Toxicroak deserves a special mention despite not being bulky, as it easily takes advantage of Golisopod due to its typing and ability. However, none of these Pokemon like having their items removed by Knock Off. Pokemon such as Dragalge and Bewear are easy to wear down due to their lack of reliable recovery.

**Flying-types**: Flying-types such as Noivern, Togekiss, and Crobat easily revenge kill Golisopod and switch into its First Impression. However, they should watch out for Knock Off because they rely a ton on their Heavy-Duty Boots to prevent Stealth Rock damage.

**Electric-types**: Once they get a safe switch in, Electric-types such as Raikou, Toxtricity, and Xurkitree OHKO Golisopod.

**Strong Attackers**: Although Golisopod has respectable bulk, strong wallbreakers such as Chandelure, Obstagoon, and Golurk easily defeat it or force it out by activating its ability. Indeedee-M deserves special attention, because its Psychic Terrain prevents Golisopod from using First Impression against grounded targets.

Banned deucer.
As far as the overview goes, there are Pokémon that can wall it, yes, but items being so vulnerable to Knock Off this gen means Golis can put in work no matter what. Combine that with the ability to set up spikes and it can help its team pressure its own counters. I’d really emphasize just how good the Knock + Spikes combo is. Also, Close Combat is worth a mention in other options. It hits Cobalion and Registeel in addition to doing some decent damage to opposing waters like Seismitoad.

Lastly, Golisopod's typing and physical bulk allow it to check some strong threats such as Metagross, Mienshao, and Flygon. (Golisopod doesn't really check Mienshao since it has Edge. The newly arrived Barraskewda would be a perfect fit. Whether you want to add it now or wait to see if any tiering action is taken (not very likely) is up to you. Golisopod works well on balance and bulky offensive teams, that need a reliable revenge killer for common threats such as Xurkitree, Necrozma, and Barbaracle (Barbaracle is by no means common, as it hasn't been used once in 6 weeks of RUPL. Plus, it can afford to run Protect. So, you can replace it with Zarude/Flygon or another threat of your choice.)and appreciate a reliable Spikes setter as well. Powerful wallbreakers such as Obstagoon, Toxtricity, and Gardevoir appreciate Golisopod's Spikes support since this helps them to wear down the opposing team quicker. In return, they handle troublesome bulky Pokemon such as Vileplume, Dragalge, and Bewear Gastrodon (Bewear isn't a bad example but I wanted to throw in Gastro since it a big one for Pod.) for Golisopod. Strong late-game cleaners like Mimikyu, Sharpedo, and Xurkitree are also good examples of Pokemon that appreciate the Spikes support that Golisopod provides. Grass- and Electric-types such as Roserade, Zarude, and Xurkitree are great teammates, since they check bulky Water-types such as Milotic, Seismitoad, and Gastrodon that Golisopod struggles with. (Roserade is a bit odd, as it also runs Spikes but it's not unheard of to run both as Feliburn used the combo in RUPL. However, he changed Spikes on Golisopod to another move since he had Spikes on Roserade. So, you can either replace Roserade with Raikou/Vileplume or mention that Roserade allows you to run something else over Spikes. The former is probably the best choice.) Bulky Rock- and Steel-types such as Dianice, Rhyperior, and Metagross, on the other hand, check strong Flying-types such as Togekiss, Noivern, and Crobat. Golisopod is an easy target to revenge kill due to its low Speed stat, especially after First Impression is used. As a result, bulky Pokemon such as Sylveon, Incineroar, and Seismitoad are welcome teammates. (I often see you mention how X mon appreciates bulky Pokemon / defensive backbone due to it being easily revenge killed or is frail. Obv, this ain't bad but you mostly cover this already with your previous mentions. Like you've already mentioned everything that revenge kills Golisopod and how to cover them so there's no need to specify that Pod likes some ambiguous group of bulky mons. In the overview, you also covered that Pod is easily revenge killed after using First Impression so that's also not needed here.) Special defensive Pokemon such as Porygon2, Assault Vest Reuniclus, and Snorlax are great choices, as they are also reliable checks to the strong Electric-types.

Powerful wallbreakers such as Obstagoon, Toxtricity, and Gardevoir appreciate Golisopod's Spikes support, (AC) since this it helps them to wear down the opposing team quicker more quickly. In return, they handle troublesome bulky Pokemon such as Vileplume, Dragalge, and Gastrodon for Golisopod. Strong late-game cleaners like Mimikyu, Sharpedo, and Xurkitree are also good examples of Pokemon that appreciate the Spikes support that Golisopod provides. Grass- and Electric-types such as Vileplume, Zarude, and Xurkitree are great teammates, since they check bulky Water-types such as Milotic, Seismitoad, and Gastrodon that Golisopod struggles with. Beyond that, they also appreciate Golisopod's ability to remove Heavy-Duty Boots from opposing Pokemon with Knock Off. Specially defensive Pokemon such as Porygon2, Assault Vest Reuniclus, and Snorlax are great choices, as they are reliable checks to the great to reliably check the tier's (if you meant something else besides "the tier's" feel free to replace) strong Electric-types.

Other Options
=============

Leech Life gives Golisopod the option to heal itself (RC) but, (AC) most importantly, gives it the option to lets it still hit Grass-, Psychic-, and Dark-types such as Zarude, Reuniclues, and Umbreon still super effectively after First Impression is used. However, it has less little use besides that, (AC) and Knock Off as well as and Spikes have more use overall. Close Combat allows Golisopod to 2HKO Registeel and Cobalion as well as to hit Seismitoad for decent damage too. Aqua Jet is a reliable priority move that allows Golisopod to revenge kill Pokemon such as Chandelure, Salazzle, and Aerodactyl. Unfortunately, it is hard to fit over another move. (it's slotted into the set)

Checks and Counters
===================

**Bulky Water-types**: Bulky Water-types such as Seismitoad, Milotic, and Gastrodon take very little from Golisopod's moves and threaten it with either a Scald burn or Toxic poison. However, all of these Pokemon do not want to lose their item to Golisopod's Knock Off.

**Various Bulky Pokemon**: Various bulky Pokemon such as Vileplume, Dragalge, and Bewear can easily switch into Golisopod's STAB moves and then either knock it out or activate its ability with their main attacks. Toxicroak deserves a special mention despite not being bulky, as it can easily takes advantage of Golisopod due to its typing and ability. However, all these Pokemon do not like having their items Knocked Off removed by Knock Off. Beyond that, some of these Pokemon such as Dragalge as well as and Bewear are easy to wear down due to their lack of a reliable recovery.

**Flying-types**: Flying-types such as Noivern, Togekiss, and Crobat not only revenge kill Golisopod easily but also switch into its First Impression easily. However, they should watch out for Knock Off (RC) because they all rely a ton on their Heavy-Duty Boots to prevent Stealth Rock damage.

**Electric-types**: Once they get a safe switch-in, Electric-types such as Raikou, Toxtricity, and Xurkitree OHKO Golisopod with their Thunderbolts.

**Strong Attackers**: Although Golisopod has a respectable bulk, strong wallbreakers such as Chandelure, Obstagoon, and Golurk easily defeat it or force it out by activating its ability. Indeedee-M deserves special attention, because its Psychic Terrain prevents Golisopod from using First Impression against grounded targets.

GP 2/2
[OVERVIEW]
First Impression Golisopod is a reliable revenge killer for many common threats such as Necrozma, Zarude, and Xurkitree due to its powerful First Impression. Additionally, its combination of the crippling Knock Off and Spikes makes Golisopod into it a great offensive supporter for the team. Beyond that, this combination allows Golisopod able to punish nearly every switch-in and play around of some of its typical counters and checks. Lastly, Golisopod's typing and physical bulk allow it to check some strong threats such as Metagross, Barraskewda, and Flygon as well. However, after First Impression is used, Golisopod is easy to revenge kill due to its low Speed stat and mediocre special bulk. Golisopod also struggles against many common bulky Water-types and various other bulky Pokemon such as Milotic, Gastrodon, and Vileplume, (comma) particularly the Water-types. Although its ability Emergency Exit might be helpful in some situations, in most cases being forced to switch out is more a curse getting forced to switch out is disadvantageous in most cases.
